The green display application keeps it simple!
Suppose your settings (configurable from the application user interface) are as follows:
- screen timeout: 30s;
- detection time: 5s;
- inclination detection enabled;
- motion detection enabled.
- Green Display does nothing during the first 25 seconds;
- the sensors potentially work during the last 5 seconds, but:
- as soon as inclination is detected, sensors are immediately released;
- if the device inclination is below the inclination angle setting threshold, as soon as movement is detected, sensors are released.
- Actually, 0.7 seconds are reserved to proximity detection (if enabled), so that it's safe to put the phone in the pocket forgetting its screen on.
Application states
The following icons are visible in the status bar icon on the left and represent the Green Display status:
- screen is on, application idle;
- screen is on, application is detecting movement or inclination (or both, if specified);
- screen is on, application is detecting movement or inclination but beware: proximity detection is disabled;
- screen is on, application is detecting movement or inclination but proximity detection is disabled when the device orientation is in landscape mode;
- screen is allowed to go off;
That said, disabling the proximity detection in landscape mode can be a good choice to avoid the screen going off while reading in landscape mode. At the same time it is not so dangerous unless you put the device back in your pocket (or handbag) horizontally forgetting to turn the display off, the combination of the two being hopefully unlikely!
